    • Corbett Inc. Norristown, PA

Designing environments that encourage Active Learning and Collaboration involves a strategic blend of a wide array of factors. As learning designers/technologists it is important to understand the entire process of creating these innovative spaces to ensure success. This next regular PADLA meeting will begin this exploration as a prequel to our 16th Annual Conference and Expo.

The purpose of this meeting will be to bring together Higher Ed, Corporate, & K-12 professionals to engage in interactive presentations, case studies, and hands-on demos. The meeting will take place at the Corbett Experience Center, housed in a uniquely historical mill featuring a variety of staged vignettes focusing on both state-of-the-art furniture and technology used to create active learning/collaborative environments. The meeting will be comprised of small group tours of the impressive Corbett Experience Center with presentations at 4 stops depicting different types of learning/collaborative environments.

West Chester University and Holy Redeemer Health System will be presenting their "real-world" case studies/methodologies, while Mersive, and StarLeaf, will be demonstrating some of the latest advances in Learning/Collaborative Technologies. They will be stationed at each tour stop and deliver a presentation/demo to each small group on the process/technology used in "Designing Active Learning/Collaborative Environments".

Case Study "Dreamscaping: Imagining a Brand-Based Experience in your New Space and its Technology Solutions" by Christine Holt, Chief Experience Officer: Spark @ the Holy Redeemer Transformation Center

Most organizations consider the quality of the user experience and the functional uses of the space when designing a new environment and the technology that supports it. Moving beyond this concept to Experience design that is driven by consideration of the moments of engagement, or touchpoints, between people and brands, and the ideas, emotions, and memories that these moments create is critical to designing transformational environments. This session will discuss the use of Experience Design concepts to intentionally unite the aspects of People, Process and Place in an Experience that expresses an organization’s brand promise.

Christine Holt provides leadership to the experience design initiatives at Holy Redeemer Health System, including direction/oversight for the marketing, recruitment, employee University, and Construction and design functions. Previous to the CXO role, she was the VP, Marketing and Public Affairs for the System. Prior to Holy Redeemer, she served as a Marketing Director in suburban hospitals and large physician practices. She began her healthcare career as a long-term care administrator. Chris received her Bachelor of Science degree in marketing and finance from Saint Joseph’s University and her MBA in healthcare administration and a MS in healthcare finance from Temple University.

Case Study "Developing Active Learning Spaces: Perspectives from West Chester University" by JT Singh, Teresa Hudson, Yuki Yamamoto & Rui Lee Ph.D: West Chester University Information Services & Technology

Leadership from West Chester University (WCU) Information Services and Technology will discuss and contrast their respective challenges, goals, and expectations in developing contemporary, active learning spaces. WCU is a comprehensive public institution, with more than 17,000 students and over 100 programs of study. The team will share ideas and dialogue around their creative solutions, including new technology, the processes employed to involve all stakeholders, and noteworthy successes and failures. The multiyear renovation activities will outline adjustments to projects in subsequent years that will leverage lessons learned and influence modifications and fine-tuning.

Outcomes: Explore WCU approach to involving campus stakeholders in creating active learning spaces, including design, planning, assessment, and iteration. Leverage this information to develop a framework and process for creating active learning spaces on your campus.
